- Dated October 3, 1777 Indenture agreement between Peter Osgood Jr. nnd Timon "a free negro who hath no Master" to two years of obedient service in return for meat, drink, lodging, apparel, in sickness and health and for six pounds at the end a a good strong homemade suit of wearing apparels. Transcription:This Indenture made this third day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & seventy seven between Peter Osgood Jr. of Andover in the County of Essex of State of the Massachusetts Bay Merchant of the one part & Timon of Andover aforesaid Labourer a free negro who hath no Master of the other part - witnesseth - That the said Timon for the Consideration hereafter mentioned hath as by these presents doth let himself out to the said Peter for & during the space of two years from the date of these presents to be compleat as ended. And the said Timon doth covenant with the said Peter that he will during that time faithfully serve him the said Peter in and about his lawful business and that he the said Timon will obey all his the said Peter’s lawful commands___ And the said PEter in consideration of the Performance of the Covenants aforesaid doth covenant with the said Timon that he will find him in meat, drink, lodging, apparel, working & minding, in sickness and in health during that time. And that at the expiration of said term he the said Peter will pay him the said Timon six pounds lawful money and give and deliver him one good strong homemade suit of wearing apparels___ In witness whereof the parties have hereunto interchangeabley set their hands & seals the day of year above mentioned.
