Transcription:Casar vs. Taylor 51 Appeal Casar a Negro man of Andover in the County of Essex leather dresser Plt; against Samuel Taylor of Reading in the County of Middlesex Cordwainer Deft; in a Plea of Trespass, for that the said Taylor at said Newbury Port on the first Day of June Anno Domini 1770 with Force & Arms assaulted the said Casar and him imprisoned & detained & kept in Slavery from the said first Day of June to the ninth Day of September instant, & other Enormities to him then & there did against the Peac & to the Damage of the said Casar as he saith the Sum of two hundred Pounds. The Plaintiff appeareth. And the said Samuel (by Benjamin Kent Esq. his Attorney) come & defends etc. and says he is not guity as the Plat declares thereof puts himself on the Country. Whereupon Issue being joined; the Cause, after a full Hearing was committed to a Jury sworn according to Law to try it, who returned their Verdict therein upon Oath, that is to say, they find for the Plaintiff twenty-five Pounds thirteen Shillings & eight Pence Money Damage & Cost. It is Considered by the Court, that the said Casar recover of the said Samuel Taylor the Sum of twenty five Pounds thirteen Shillings & eight Pence Money Damage & Costs taxed at The Defendant appealed to the next Superiour Court of Judicature to be holden for this County and entered into Recognizance with Sureties as the Law directs for prosecuting his Appeal to Effect.
