Transcription:Essex Ss Anno Regni Regis Georgii Tertii Magna Britannia, Francia et Hibernia, Undecimo At his Majesty’s Inferior Court of Common Please begun and held at Newbury Port within and for the County of Essex on the last Tuesday of September, being the twenty fourth Day of the said Month Annoque Domini [torn] Casar a Negroman of Andover in the County of Essex Leather dresser, Plt, against Samuel Taylor of Reading in the County of Middlesex Cordwainer, Deft, in a Plea of Trespass for that the said Taylor at said Newbury Port on the first Day of Jne Annon Domini 1770 with Force & Arms assaulted the said Casar & him imprisoned & detained & kept in Slavery from the said first Day of June to the ninth Day of September instant & other Enormities to him then & there did against the Peace of to the Damage of the said Casar as he saith the sum of two hundred Pounds. The Plaintiff appeared [torn] the said [torn]uel. (by Benjami[torn] Kent Esq. his Attorney) [torn]puts himself on the Country. Whereupon issue. being joined; the Cause, after a full Hearing, was committed to a Jury sworn according to Law to try it who returned their Verdict therein upon Oath, that is to say, they find for the Plaintiff twenty five Pounds thirteen Shillings & eight pence Money Damages & Costs. It is Considered by the Court, that the said Casar recover of the said Samuel Taylor the sum of twenty five Pounds thirteen Shillings & eight Pence Money Damage and Costs taxed at [blank] [illegible] The Defendant appealed to the next Superiour Court of Judicature to be holden for this County and entered into Recognizance with Suretites as the Law directs for prosecuting his Appeal to Effect.
