Transcription:Know all men by these presents that I Pomp Somerset a negro man of Newbury Port in the County of Essex of State of Massachusetts Bay Labourer have constituted & appointed of by the [?] do constitute & appoint Theopphilus Parsons of said Newbury Port Esquire to be my attorney in my name to commence & persue unto final judgment an action of trespass against Richard Greenleaf of said Newbury Port Esquire for unlawfully detaining me in Slavery and also if final judgment should be recovered in my favour in my name to enter on the records of such Court where said Judgment shall be so received a release of all damages of costs for which said judgment shall be entered, With a power of substitution. Witness my hand & seal this fourteenth day of October Anno Domini 1776.
